Kurzbiographie
Mona Schrempf hat Ethnologie (Süd- und Zentralasien), Indische Kunstgeschichte und Altamerikanistik an der Freien Universität Berlin studiert (MA 1991) und in Ethnologie über rituelle Maskentänze als Teil von ethnisch-religiöser Wiederbelebung in einer osttibetischen Gemeinschaft von Bonpos im post-maoistischen China, Provinz Sichuan, promoviert (Dr.phil. 2001). Seit 1995 betreibt sie ethnographische Feldforschungen in tibetischen Gemeinschaften in China (Tibet, Sichuan und Qinghai Provinzen) und im Himalaya (Indien, Bhutan). Ihre postdoktoralen Forschungen thematisieren tibetische Medizinpraxis, rituelle Heilung und Gesundheitssysteme in sozialen Transformationsprozessen in Asien und seit 2012 auch in Europa. Konkret befassen sie sich mit der Überlieferung und gegenwärtigen tibetischen Medizinpraxis in bestehenden Arztfamilientraditionen in Tibet (TAR, Schrempf 2007), Medizinpluralismus zwischen ritueller Heilung, Tibetischer Medizin und öffentlichem Gesundheitswesen (Schrempf 2010), Familienplanung unter Tibeterinnen in der Qinghai Provinz (Schrempf 2008, 2012). Letztere Forschung führte Mona Schrempf als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Zentralasien Seminar, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin im Rahmen des SFB 640 ‘Repräsentationen Sozialer Ordnungen im Wandel’ (2004-8) durch. Ihr gegenwärtiges Forschungsprojekt befaßt sich mit der Globalisierung der tibetischen Medizin in China und Europa im Rahmen des Wellcome Trust Projekts “Beyond Tradition: Ways of Knowing and Styles of Practice in East Asian Medicines 1000 to the Present”, am EASTmedicine Research Centre, Complementary Medicine, School of Science and Technology, University of Westminster, London (2012-2015). Seit Oktober 2012 ist sie Senior Mitherausgeberin der peer-review Zeitschrift Asian Medicine – Tradition and Modernity (www.brill.nl/asian-medicine). Seit zehn Jahren organisiert sie internationale Konferenzen und panels zur Tibetischen und Asiatischen Medizin (IATS, International Association for Tibetan Studies Oxford 2003, Bonn 2006; Zentralasien-Seminar, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin 2005, 2013; ICTAM VIII, International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine 2013) mit daraus resultierenden Publikationen.
