Im Jahr 2012 habe ich am Institut für Sozial und Kulturanthropologie der Freien Universität Berlin promoviert. Unter Berücksichtigung der Einwirkung globaler Macht- und Kontrollmechanismen in Bezug auf gesundheitliche Versorgung habe ich in meiner Forschung die Einführung der chinesischen Heilpflanze Artemisia annua in Tansania untersucht. Der thematische Rahmen meiner Dissertation erstreckte sich neben der Analyse der Integration der Pflanze in das lokale Gesundheitswesen und damit verbundener Innovationsprozesse auf die komplexen Dynamiken der globalen Medikamentenproduktion, die sich im Zusammenspiel kultureller, politischer und ökonomischer Kräfte auf verschiedenen Ebenen (lokal, regional, global) ausgestalteten.
Nach meiner Promotion habe ich am Institut für Sozial und Kulturanthropologie in Berlin unterrichtet. Zwischen 2011 und 2014 führte ich außerdem ein Kollaborationsprojekt zwischen dem Institut für Sozial und Kulturanthropologie in Berlin, der NGO „World Doctors“ und dem Gesundheitsministerium in Sansibar durch. Dieses Projekt dient als Grundlage für den Aufbau einer anvisierten Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem biomedizinischen und traditionellen Heilungssektor in Sansibar.
Von 2015-2017 war ich wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin (Post-Doc) im ERC-Projekt From International to Global: Knowledge, Diseases and the Postwar Government of Health in Paris (INSERM, Cermes3, EHESS). Meine Forschung im Pariser Projekt ist Teil der Projekt-Achse „Globalizing Therapeutic Techniques and Industrial Products in Asian Medicine“ und untersucht den transnationalen Handel von Medikamenten sowie neue “Süd-Süd” Gesundheitskooperationen zwischen Indien und Ostafrika.
Seit Mai 2017 arbeite ich an meinem DFG-Projekt “Grenze als Symbol und Ursache kultureller Transformationsprozesse: der traditionelle Medizinsektor in Sansibar”, welches am Institut für Sozial-und Kulturanthropologie (FU) angesiedelt ist.
