After finishing his studies in 2006 he worked as a project coordinator in a health promotion project for refugees and asylum seekers by the German Red Cross (Deutscher Präventionspreis 2007). Since 2008 he has been a research associate at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Freie Universität Berlin. His doctoral thesis examines the social dynamics and political framework of the national HIV treatment program in Tanzania. It furthermore explores how patients incorporate antiretroviral medicines in their everyday life and what effect the broad availability of the therapy has on local social relations and the broader societal discourse on HIV/AIDS. From 2012 to 2014 Dominik coordinated the Medical Anthropology Young Scholars Network (MAYS, within the European Association of Social Anthropologists) together with Katerina Vidner-Ferkov (University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia). In this capacity he co-organized two international conferences for junior researchers in medical anthropology. Currently, Dominik is working as a post-doctoral researcher in the Collaborative Research Center “Affective Societies” (at Freie Universität Berlin). His collaborative research project is entitled “Affective emotions and affective belonging in the context of migration: Sufi Centers and (new) Pentecostal churches in Berlin”.

Research Interests

HIV/AIDS and antiretroviral therapy; anthropology of pharmaceuticals; Global Health; migration and health; anthropology of affect and emotion; anthropology of Christianity/Pentecostalism

Research Area(s)

East Africa (Tanzania); Berlin, Germany

Publications

Journal Articles (peer-reviewed)

2018.
