Verena Keck is affiliate professor in anthropology at the Goethe University of Frankfurt at Main. In her PhD thesis (University of Basel, 1991), she analyses a local medical system in Papua New Guinea. Her most recent book (her Habilitation, The Search for a Cause 2012) is about a neurological disease in Guam, Western Pacific. She has carried out repeated field research among the Yupno people in Papua New Guinea, on Guam, and in Bali, Indonesia. She has taught extensively at various European universities (Basel, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Mainz, Ljubljana) and in the Pacific (Papua New Guinea) on a broad range of topics; in the field of medical anthropology, her topics include seminars on sickness and society, medical pluralism, age and aging in cross-cultural perspective, disability as cultural construct, methods in medical anthropology, health and migration.
